Testing The Technologies
In 1967, the U.S. Navy developed the “Timation” satellite which proved the ability to place accurate clocks in space, a technology the GPS relies upon.
In the 1970s, the ground-based “Omega Navigation System”, became the first world-wide radio navigation system.
The full 24-satellite constellation was completed on March 9, 1994, and reached full Operational Capability on July 17, 1995.
